Anti-Diet Picture of the Day


I’m a native New Englander.  I like shellfish.  Nothing says “summer” like a big tub of battered-and-fried clams.  In the fall I love a steaming bowl of clam chowder.  And when I was young we’d go to the shore where I’d pick a bucket of mussels and we’d make something like the above dish.  And bacon-wrapped scallops?  Mmm-mmm-mmm.  Though I admit I gave up lobster years ago, after playing with them while diving off Cape Ann.

Now that I have made a conscious decision to make a “spirited attempt” at keeping kosher… no more shellfish.  I can live without the clams of any sort without too much loss.  I do miss scallops on occasion, especially at parties where they’re served wrapped in bacon.  But damnation (!) I miss mussels in garlic-and-wine sauce with a big piece of crusty French bread to mop up the sauce.
